Epsom to Victoria, Waterloo & St Pancras: London Station Taxi Guide

Journey times, costs and practical advice for getting from Epsom to London's main stations by taxi.

If you are weighing up a taxi to London stations from Epsom, the questions are nearly always the same. How long will it take? What will it cost? Is it actually better than getting the train into town and changing? Peters Cars has been running station transfers from Epsom, Ashtead and Ewell for more than ten years, so this guide sets out what we have learned on the road: realistic journey times to Victoria, Waterloo, St Pancras and Euston, what affects the fare, which vehicle to book, and how much time to leave so you are standing on the platform rather than watching your train pull out.

London Stations from Epsom at a Glance

These are the four stations we are asked for most often, with typical distances and drive times from Epsom. The times are for a normal run. Rush hour, roadworks and events in central London can all add to them, which is why we plan every booking around your train rather than around an average.

Taxi or Train? An Honest Comparison

Epsom is well connected by rail. There are direct trains from Epsom station to both Victoria and Waterloo, and if you are travelling alone with a small bag in the middle of the day, the train is a perfectly good way to get there. We would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

A taxi earns its place when the journey is less simple than that. In our experience, people book a car to a London station when:

  • There is luggage involved. Suitcases, pushchairs, ski bags and Christmas presents are hard work on a commuter train and harder still on the Underground.
  • The onward train goes from St Pancras or Euston. By rail, that means a change in central London and a Tube journey with your bags. By car, it is one door-to-door trip.
  • The timing is awkward. Very early departures and late arrivals are when local train services are at their thinnest. We run 24 hours a day.
  • Several people are travelling together. Once you are buying three or four train tickets, one car for the whole group looks very different, and nobody gets separated on a crowded platform.
  • You do not want to leave a car at the station. No parking fees, no hunting for a space, and no walking back to a cold car at midnight.
  • Someone needs a bit of extra help. Older relatives, young children and anyone who finds stairs and escalators difficult will have a calmer journey from their own front door.

Epsom to London Victoria by Taxi

Victoria is the closest of the big London terminals to Epsom by road, typically 14–15 miles and 30–35 minutes away, and it is one of our most requested station transfers. People use it for the Gatwick Express, for rail connections across the South East, and because Victoria Coach Station is a short walk away for long-distance coaches.

The roads around Victoria are busy and the drop-off areas are tight, so local knowledge matters. Our drivers know the set-down points and will get you as close to the entrance as the restrictions allow. If you are heading on to the coach station rather than the railway station, tell us when you book and we will drop you there instead, which saves you a walk with your bags.

Epsom to London Waterloo by Taxi

Waterloo is a very similar run: around 15 miles and typically 32–37 minutes from Epsom. It is the London terminus for South Western Railway, so it is the natural choice for onward trains towards the south and south west, and it is right beside the South Bank if you are heading for a theatre, a concert or a meeting on that side of the river.

Waterloo is one of the busiest stations in the country, and it can be an overwhelming place to arrive at with luggage in the middle of the evening peak. Being dropped at the station rather than fighting your way in from the Underground makes a real difference. For the return leg, agree a meeting point with us in advance, because "outside Waterloo" covers a surprising amount of pavement.

Epsom to St Pancras International by Taxi

St Pancras is typically 17–18 miles and 40–45 minutes from Epsom, and it is our most popular route for Eurostar connections. It is also the station for trains to the East Midlands and for high-speed services into Kent, with King's Cross next door for the East Coast main line.

For Eurostar passengers, the drive is only part of the calculation. You have to pass through ticket gates, security and passport control before you board, and Eurostar asks passengers to arrive well ahead of departure. Check the guidance on your booking, then give us your train time and we will work backwards from there. We would always rather see you having a relaxed coffee in the station than checking your watch on the Euston Road.

Euston and King's Cross

Euston is around 17 miles and 40–45 minutes from Epsom, almost identical to St Pancras because the two stations sit a few minutes apart on the same road. Euston is where you catch West Coast services towards Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, as well as the overnight sleeper to Scotland. King's Cross is beside St Pancras, so we can take you there on the same booking. If your onward ticket could be used from more than one of these stations, tell us which train you are aiming for and we will take you to the right door.

How Much Does a Taxi to London Stations from Epsom Cost?

We do not publish a one-size-fits-all price list, because the fare genuinely depends on the journey. Instead, we give you a clear quote before you commit to anything. Three things make the biggest difference:

  • The station. Victoria and Waterloo are closer than St Pancras and Euston, and the fare reflects the distance.
  • The time of day. Early-morning, late-night and holiday journeys may be priced differently from a standard daytime run.
  • The vehicle. A saloon for two people costs less than an eight-seater for a group, although the larger vehicle often works out well once the fare is shared.

You can read more about how we price journeys and request a quote on our station transfer prices page, or call us on 01372 727494 for a figure straight away. When you compare quotes, compare like with like: ask what is included, and remember to count every train ticket, the station car park and the Tube fares on the other side of the scales. We accept major cards, with payment taken at the time of booking, so there is nothing to sort out at the kerb when you are trying to catch a train.

Choosing the Right Vehicle

The right car depends on how many of you are travelling and, just as importantly, on how much you are carrying. As a rough guide:

  • Saloon. Ideal for one or two passengers with ordinary luggage.
  • Estate. The same comfort with extra boot space, which suits a couple with large cases or anyone travelling with sports equipment.
  • MPV. Room for a family or a small group and their bags.
  • Eight-seater. Our largest vehicle, seating up to eight passengers so that a group travels together in one booking.
  • Trailer. Available alongside our larger vehicles when a group has more luggage than seats.

Most station transfers are comfortably handled by our saloon and estate cars, but if you are unsure, tell us how many people and how many cases and we will recommend the right size. It is far better to mention the extra suitcase when you book than to discover at the kerb that it will not fit.

How Much Time Should You Allow?

The drive times in the table above are typical, not guaranteed, and traffic into central London varies a great deal through the day. When you give us your train time, we plan the pickup around it. As a rule of thumb:

  • Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the slowest times to drive into London, so we build in a wider margin.
  • Early mornings, late evenings and Sundays are usually much quicker, though engineering works and events can still cause delays.
  • International and advance-ticket journeys deserve the most generous buffer. A missed Eurostar or a non-refundable ticket is a much bigger problem than a missed commuter train.

Our advice is simple: tell us the train you need to be on, not the time you think you should leave. Working out the rest is our job.

Booking Tips from Our Drivers

  • Book as soon as you have your train time. This matters most for early departures and peak hours, although we take same-day bookings whenever a driver is available.
  • Give us the full picture. Passenger numbers, luggage and any mobility needs all affect which vehicle we send.
  • Book the return at the same time. Give us your arrival time and we will be waiting when your train gets in. If your train is delayed, let us know as soon as you can.
  • Agree a meeting point. London terminals have several exits, so a named spot saves a lot of phone calls.
